National Service Scheme (NSS)

The college has a very active N.S.S. Unit. Students who are  interested in social work are given the opportunity to do so by joining the N.S.S.Students. Those who complete 120 hours of social work are entitled for 10 grace marks at the final examination as laid down under 0.229.
 

The NSS conducts various programs throughout the year in the college and in the community. These programs help in promoting good citizenship and holistic development of students. The programs focus on health, environmental and social issues.

  • Chalo English Sikhayein
  • Blood donation camp:  Every year blood donation camps are organised in association with L.T. Hospital, Rotary Club and Think Foundation.
  • Red ribbon club (RRC) activities: Aids awareness programs for Junior and Senior college students are conducted by professional doctors. Volunteers participate in workshops and other activites on AIDS awareness organised by MDACS. Street plays, distribution of pamphlets and exhibition of posters in the adopted community area are other related activities.
  • Malaria awareness program are conducted in collaboration with BMC where volunteers distribute pamphlets to spread the message of health and hygiene in the community.
  • Pulse Polio project: NSS volunteers participate in the Pulse Polio Program organised in collaboration with BMC.
  • Cleanliness drive program: In collaboration with BMC in Sion-Koliwada and at the special residential camp at Karav village.
  • Eco –friendly Ganapati celebrations: Rallies, street plays etc. by NSS volunteers are organised to create awareness about the use of recyclable material in Ganesh Mandap decoration as well as use of eco-friendly Ganesh idols in community areas.
  • Tree plantation Program: NSS volunteers participate in the Tree Plantation Drive at Maharashtra Nature Park, Mahim and at Mulgaon, Badlapur.
  • Gender sensitization: The NSS unit conducts Workshops, lectures, panel discussions and street plays on Gender sensitization with the help of NGOs  – PUKAR, MAVA, VACHA.
  • National Integration: The NSS unit celebrates Independence Day and Republic Day and in collaboration with Hi-Tech Foundation, sell flags made by physically challenged students thus sensitizing them towards helping disabled people.
